How it's going...

Posted on 2005.11.04 at 12:05
Well, I don't want to jinx myself, but this is going a little better than expected. I'm trying to write around 2,000 words per day. I figure that's the best way to ensure that I hit 50,000 by the end of the month.

Cool things keep happening too. Like a sinister man on an airplance I hadn't known was going to be there...he's behind the whole plot of the story. I just didn't know he'd make his first appearance on the plane.

So yeah - four days in, and I'm feeling pretty good!

Word count update: 7107/50000

3.5 hours left...

With only a few hours before what could be a month of madness begins, I'm taking stock of where I stand:

Characters: Check. Around 15 at last count - 2 main, 4 sub-main, the rest ensemble.
Characters with names: Er...uncheck. Only 3 have names.
Plot: Er...uncheck again. I know what's going to happen. I just haven't figured out why.

Well, I've got lots of freedom to write whatever I like, at least =).

Here's to a month of work, grad school applications, and 50,000 words!

First Stumbling Block

Well, I've just completely switched plots, characters and even genres for my novel. Oh well. I've still got three days to change my mind again...

First Entry

Everyone's got to start somewhere. This is mine.

I've just signed up to write a novel with NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month for those who didn't know. 50,000 words, all written in the month of November. I must be crazy.

But hope springs eternal, and I think I can do this. I've got the plot, the characters, and I really want to write this book. Hurrah for the folks at NaNoWriMo for putting together essentially one big happy novel-writing support group.

I'll try to keep this blog updated with tales of the trials and tribulations of novel-writing. I wish I'd had known about support communities like this when I'd written my thesis...
